馃 GEOPOLITICS: MAIN LEAD PRODUCING COUNTRIES 馃
Lead has a wide range of uses, including: Lead-acid batteries, radiation shielding, building materials abrasives, shot, type metal, organic lead compounds. Based on the data from the US Geological Survey, the main lead producing countries are:
Ran | Country | Production (metric tonnes) | tonnes | % Accumulated
China 4,950.0 34% 34%
Australia 1,900.0 13% 46%
Peru 1,700.0 12% 58%
Mexico 1,600.0 11% 69%
Russia 900.0 6% 75%
India 700.0 5% 80%
Bolivia 600.0 4% 84%
Swaziland 500.0 3% 87%
United States 400.0 3% 90%
Canada 300.0 2% 92%
Iran 300.0 2% 94%
Mongolia 200.0 1% 95%
South Africa 150.0 1% 96%
Portugal 100.0 1% 97%
Germany 100.0 1% 98%
Spain 100.0 1% 98%
Poland 100.0 1% 99%
Chile 50.0 0% 99%
Serbia 50.0 0% 100%
Burkina Faso 50.0 0% 100%
What is noteworthy is that the BRICS group controls ± 45% of production against a ± 21% of pro-USA bloc (Australia, USA, Canada, Portugal, Germany, Spain, Poland and Serbia). In fact, near of 79% is controlled by a non pro-USA bloc. However, a pro-China sentiment bloc might control ± 41% of total.
In other hand, LATAM controls near of ± 27% and Africa ± 4%. However, 28% would be controlled by a movement that is not clearly allied to a USA or China interest, and this are mainly in America and some in Africa. In the case of Mexico, is a special situation, where it could play a neutral rol but this position as buffer state, makes it clearly USA national security issue (so, if Mexico is included in pro-USA bloc, this could control the ± 32% of total) -This idea might be analogue in the case of copper-.
