In the coming decades, there will likely be at least four trends:
- Population aging. Life expectancy has increased, as has the risk of suffering from some diseases and conditions associated with it. At the same time, there is a need for resources to support more inactive people.
- Population decline. It is linked to a lower desire to become parents due to a lack of resources and the desire to avoid any responsibility, or due to fertility problems.
- Wars. The US-Pax is likely over, and the transition of new powers will bring with it geopolitical reconfigurations. Rusia, China, and perhaps India, Indonesia and Brazil will push for a relevant role in the internantional System.
- State Interventionism. A response to the fatigue of the neoliberal model, which will be exacerbated by armed conflicts and the need to reconfigure global supply chains.
For the above trends, some consequences will be pointed out, such as:
- Labor shortages. This will be due to the aging and declining population, coupled with low social qualifications, where the best jobs will be for only a select few.
- Loneliness. Sexual partners will be needed for those who can't find a partner or who don't see courtship as an investment for that purpose.
- Care for people. This will be necessary to address the aging population versus the decline in the economically active population.
- Inflationary processes. This will result from the re-adoption of the doctrine of State Interventionism, a model that has proven to be inflationary. There will be less commercial freedom, squeezed margins, and an increase in uncontrolled public spending as a way to demonstrate the nation's stability to the outside world.
- Protection of private property. This will be necessary in the wake of destabilization movements associated with wars, inflation, uncontrolled migration, and the re-securing of new supply chains.
For many of these problems, humanoids and the addition of robotic components to the human body, in addition to gene editing, will be a partial solution. They may perform jobs associated with manual laborers, sexual partners, nurses, security guards, and military personnel. At the same time, they could relax production margins and combat inflation linked to operating expenses.
